Yamaha’s AX-763 was one of the biggest selling amps of 2008. What made it so popular was the fact that in demonstrations, many people believed it simply sounded miles better than anything else at the price. However, the 763 did have an Achilles heal, in that it was painfully low on features, with only two HDMI inputs, no scaler, and no radio. Many people hoped that when the 763 was replaced, Yamaha would keep the amp’s superb sonic qualities, but give it equally brilliant facilities. And that’s exactly what has happened!
